Actually the daycare center was across the street in a non-WTC building
which survived, as did all the children in the daycare...

The lights are okay, statues would be tacky...

They are definitely going to have some sort of memorial at the site, the
question is just what form such a memorial will take, and how large it will
be; some people feel the whole 16 acres should be turned into a memorial
park, but it's unlikely that so much acreage in the middle of prime
lower-Manhattan real estate will be devoted to non-commercial use...

I think another WTC should be built there, of course without such large
towers which would just become another target; and in the middle of it
should be a couple of acres made into a memorial park...the two lights
representing the two destroyed towers is an okay idea, but the rest of the
design should be zen-like, just trees and plants and fountains and seats
where people can meditate. No statues.
