As we are being more aggressive in deprecating libraries which aren't up to date with modern practices we might se more platforms where there simply are no alternatives.  libcurl without TLS is not great, but the alternative isn't necessarily better.

I suspect those cases don't actually exist. I mean, so much networking these days is done using TLS that I doubt there are still users using curl completely without TLS support.

Also, with the exception of Gskit the other TLS libs we have dropped and the coming two that we plan to drop this summer are not the only available TLS options on any platform.

I don't know what the people who formerly used curl+gskit do. I presume some of them keep using an old curl or maybe they can use another TLS lib on their platforms now? I doubt they build curl without TLS.

If you're building libcurl for an embedded device that only talks to an HTTP server then maybe you would skip TLS support. There was one case of libcurl built only for FTP so I think it's reasonable to assume you may have a libcurl built only for HTTP, or really any other protocol without TLS.
