Hi Christian,

Yes I am sure the libs are sane. I have been using them with other apps fine
without issues.

But, now I have done the following to get 6.6.1 working for this issue:

I have edited the ghc * ghci wrapper script and added LD_LIBRARY_PATH='/
opt/pkgs/readline/5.0/lib' (and exported LD_LIBRARY_PATH) and it seems to work
now.

Is that an acceptable method within ghc or would this break something else?

check with ldd what ghc expects:
ldd /tmp/ghc-6.6.1_v1/lib/ghc-6.6.1/ghc-6.6.1

(probably libreadline.so.5 is not found)

Are you sure you have a sane file
/opt/pkgs/readline/5.0/lib/libreadline.so.5
?
(An ld script will not work)

Cheers Christian
