Yesterday I finally had a large block of time to devote to the ARM

unrelated bug (ticket #5824, David, your feedback would be greatly
appreciated here), the linker is looking quite good,

I've cleaned up the patch and found the last lingering bug (that I know
of) and it seems things still work. I've pushed the cleaned up tree
(my entire history sans debugging code squished into one tidy patch) to
my arm-ghci-7.4-clean branch of my Github repository
(https://github.com/bgamari/ghc/tree/arm-ghci-7.4-clean).

At this point, the patch is, in my opinion, merge-ready if there are no
objections. The changes are quite self-contained with nearly all of the
changes being #ifdef'd by HOST_ARCH in Linker.c so the threat of
regression in already working code should be negligible. Is it possible
that this, along with the patches in #5824 (also quite self-contained),
could make it in to 7.4? It would be nice to be able to claim full ARM
support in this release.

I think it's a bit late to be putting this patch into 7.4.1 at this stage, sorry. Since it doesn't affect any APIs there's the possibility of putting it into 7.4.2, as long as we review it carefully for any possible collateral damage (if all the code is inside #ifdef arm_HOST_ARCH, then we can check that Linker.o on x86_64/Linux is the same before and after).

Please make a ticket, attach the patch (or a link to it), and we'll milestone it for 7.4.2.

Cheers,
        Simon
