This may have been part of my problem yesterday, I probably didn't wait
long enough.

As far as the amplifier goes, I asked when I picked up the modem if it
was ok to get one if we decided to hook up an additional TV  (we have 2
now).  They said it was ok.  Three is what it is split into now.  

"They should be able to tweak the connection from the pole."

Really?  That can change things like that without coming into your
house?

Since my last post, the light blinked for a long time, then went out
completely for a while, and now is on.  I can't try it out again now
though, because I am in the process registering both our cars online
(just got the emissions inspections done) with my dial up. 

I'll try in a little while, but my husband is planning on picking up an
amplifier anyway.  I don't think it will hurt anything.
