Anyone done any home automation with X10 and OpenSource? If so, care to share some tips?
I would like to do some simple home automation; real simple. Turn a light on and off with my PC using FLOSS. I'm imagining that is should be something relatively simple: the X10 device plugs into the wall outlet. The lamp plugs into the X10 device's output power. The PC connects to the X10 device using USB (or other?). In diagram form:
power outlet === X10 device === lamp

PC w/USBOne then sends commands to the X10 device from the PC to turn things on and off. Am I close? The questions I have are, what X10 device do I need to get? Where do I get it? What software? Where do I get it? What interface, e.g. is it USB or can it be ethernet or WiFi?

Me thinks I will swing by a B&N or Borders books store for a sneak peak at the SmartHome Hacks book.
