this post will appear on The Open Source Weblog on tuesday, but i'm giving you fine folks a look before anyone else.
mozillaZine announced 2 new books from O'Reilly Media, and then Slashdot picked up the story & ran with it as only Slashdot can. <http://www.mozillazine.org/talkback.html?article=5978> <http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/01/27/1435208&tid=154&tid=192> The two books? * Firefox Hacks, by Nigel McFarlane <http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/firefoxhks/> * Don't Click on the Blue E!, by me <http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/bluee/> I'm definitely going to buy Firefox Hacks, since Nigel knows every dang thing about Firefox in the world, & it looks like a really good book. His book is targeted at Firefox power users, while my book is ostensibly written for newbies, non-power users, and the general public, but I guarantee that power users will learn a lot, 'cause that's just the kinda writer I am. But if you know someone that just started using Firefox, or if you just installed Firefox on someone's computer, & you want a good guide for them to Firefox, web browsers, extensions, security, and more, then I think you might like my book. I'm pretty excited about Don't Click on the Blue E!, since, even though I've been writing for SecurityFocus and Linux Magazine for quite a while <http://www.granneman.com/pubs/>, this is still my first book (although I'm already hard at work on another book, about Knoppix, but more on that later). I had a great time writing it, since I finally got to put into print all the stuff I've been telling people for years, & I'm looking forward to seeing people use it. I'll let you know more as I learn more about the publication. scott -- R.
