Sorry Robert but, being a newbie, I haven't learned the ways of the wise yet. I just say "ok" when that's my only option and "yes" when I'm not sure. HAHAHAAA. It didn't seem to difficult though.

I downloaded the first four CD's (only used the first 2) and test installed Sarge on an old machine.
Do you have notes posted on how you did your install? I'm curious because I'm going to try install Debian Sarge, too, pretty soon. I'd be nice if I could duplicate what you did.
I can say that when it asked, I set up apt to use the CD's and when I logged on the first time I put in the command:
# base-config
that gave me the menu to install extra components among which is desktop environments which when installed included KDE, Gnome, Ooo and a bunch of other stuff.
That's about all I've really got to play with it so far apart from getting firefox installed from the CD (haven't added or changed sources yet) and, a failed attempt to get my flash drive working.
I'm going to try Scott's suggestion of doing a net install on my main box and hopefully that will take care of my flash drive with the 2.6 kernel.
I know I'm not much help here but I do appreciate reading your correspondences and learning from you all.
Thanks, Bob
I thought it was suppose to be the 2.6 kernel but, apparently it's either 2.4.27 or that is just the default. I was wanting to use 2.6 as I believe it is suppose to be faster and has more hardware support. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Wish I did. Could it be that 2.6 is in one of the other categories?
