Q: Can I get the coordinate of a location on maps.google.com?

A: Yes. Let's say your looking at Saint Louis, MO:

  http://maps.google.com/maps?q=saint+louis,mo&t=k&hl=en

but what you really want is Forest Park which is a little to the West. You simply pan over and then double-click on Forest Park. This will center Forest Park on the map. Double-clicking will also change the URL under "Link to this Page" to this

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=saint+louis,mo&ll=38.639259,- 90.283928&spn=0.099564,0.126858&t=k&hl=en

If you then pan, zoom, grab the URL, and trim it down to this:

http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=38.635461,- 90.290494&spn=0.006223,0.007929&t=k

Look! The zoo. Close up. The coordinates are specified by the ll= and spn= values. I haven't figure them out, yet. Anyone know?

Now if I could just figure out how to get those neat little red markers on the page.
