Two problems so far:
- error about not finding xml2-config
- R seg faults and ends
Problems resolved. Don't really know why they occurred, but they no
longer happen. So, Bioconductor is installed on Knoppix with a PKDI
(persistent Knoppix disk image). Instructions here:

I was even able to add in support for connecting to the MySQL
database. As soon as I get the bittorrent tracker running on the
cwelug machine again, I'll make the PKDI available for download. In
that way Bioconductor will be as easy to run as 1-2-3:
1) insert Knoppix CD
2) insert USB stick/drive with PKDI
3) turn on machine
