A person asking a basic question about using FireFox on Windows is more than welcome on the CWE-LUG list. That's because one of the CWE-LUG's goals is to "... advocate the use of Free/Libre/OpenSource Software (FLOSS) on all platforms, including Windows ..."[1] In the past those types of questions have been answered on other lists with less-than-hospitable posts. But as you've pointed out, things may have changed. > For example, now I get two or three announcements about CWE-LUG and > other > meetings, one for each local list I am on. Yup. It would be nice to have a single source for announcements. The problem with single sources is that they become single sources of failure. For example, I've not gotten a post from the SLUUG announce list since November of 2004 despite repeated attempts to subscribe. In addition, listserves are also know to go down every now and then, including the CWE-LUG, because of power outages, hardware failure, mis-configuration, network snafus, etc. So, my solution is to post to other lists. That solution is also something that anyone can do, not just me and not just for the CWE- LUG. To wit, notice Ed's post about the MOSLUG meeting. > Just something to chew on. No offense to anyone intended. You bring up very good points. And no offense is taken. This list is meant to help each other out and to explore ideas (i.e. explore the solution space). As long as posts don't become personal attacks, I'd say they're fair points for discussion. Having said that, if anyone thinks that there are features lacking or that can be improved with the CWE-LUG, I'm all ears. That includes the website, the mailing list, the meeting times/location, etc. Just tell me what you need to make your idea work and I'll try to get those resources to you.
