Using an external 250 GB Firewire drive, I tried to create a triple FS disk: one partition with NTFS, one with Ext3, and one with HFS+. I created the partition table with fdisk and formatted the first partition with mkntfs and the second with mkfs.ext3. I then plugged the drive into OS X and used the Disk Utility to Erase (i.e. format) the third partition. Unfortunately, DiskUtility not only did not format the partition but also decided to trash the existing partition table. Result: all the partitions were lost. That wouldn't be such a big deal if I hadn't already transferred 50+ GB of data onto the other two partitions.
Running gpart now to hopefully recover the partitions and the data: gpart -W /tmp/part.table.img /dev/sda Has anyone successfully created a triple FS disk with NTFS, Ext3 (or other linux FS), and HFS+?
