I just installed Xubuntu 32-bit alternate (Xubuntu's "lite" version) last night on a used computer I acquired here while back from some friends of mine at the church I go to in west county. I originally planned to sell it to make a little extra money, not to mention promote Linux, but after my wife's cousin and her husband and kids had a house fire back in mid-November, I've learned that they need basically a little bit of everything right now, and so I decided I would instead give them this computer for Christmas.
Things are going pretty good with it, albeit a little slow (I'm gonna see if I can add some more RAM to the thing later this week), but there's one odd little quirk I've run into with it in that after I click on "Quit" in Xubuntu, it'll go through all the motions of shutting down...and then it won't power down. I instead have to hold in the power button for five seconds or so to force it to actually power down after the Xubuntu shutdown routine has run its course. This computer was also exhibiting this weird behavior with its previous operating system, Windows 98, so obviously this is a hardware problem. If it's any help, it's a Compaq Presario. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could possibly be happening here? Thanx in advance, Fred _______________________________________________ CWE-LUG mailing list [email protected] http://www.cwelug.org/ http://www.cwelug.org/archives/ http://www.cwelug.org/mailinglist/
