Has anyone had any luck playing flac or ogg on an intelmac with osx?

They both play fine in VLC, but this isn't ideal for managing a large music
collection.

Ideally I would love to have amarok. I've installed it with Fink, but haven't
been able to get it to work. For a long time it wouldn't compile, than when it
finally compiled the only available engine (amarok-engine-xine - gstreamer is
not in the fink repository) wasn't recognized, and the music files wouldn't
play. Finally the other day I tried it again, and the music files appeared to
play, but it was just an unpleasant static that came out of the speakers.

With xiph.org's plugin I've got ogg working on itunes, although I still can't
play flac. There's a nightly build that may or may not fix that, but I haven't
tried it. Ogg plays fine, but itunes doesn't recognize the disk number tag, so
the files play in alphabetical order. There is a known problem, in the faq,
with ogg tags, but apparently no solution.

Any suggestions? Other open source software?

tks
