When I run

sudo apt-get install msttcorefonts

 in Ubuntu 8.041, I get the message:

msttcorefonts uses debian font manager.  If you wish to use the fonts
provided by this package under the X window system you must configure
it to use Debian Font manager fonts.

The easiest way to do this is to use x-ttcidfont-conf package.

What does this message mean?  I attached a screenshot:
