Ummm, cheeky answer would be, use the x-ttcidfont-conf package. I found a link on installing and configuring it for Debian (and since Ubuntu is based on Debian, it *should* work): http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/linux-howto-install-truetype-freetype-and-msttcorefonts-fonts.html Just as a laugh, have you tried 'sudo apt-get install x-ttcidfont-conf' followed by 'sudo dpkg-reconfigure x-ttcidfont-conf'?
