Hiya, all. I got a new toy (shiny!) -- built a machine with Intel Core
2 Duo processor (7400), mainboard is Intel DG35EC, which has the Intel
GMA X3500 video chipset -- it supports HD, compiz looks GORGEOUS (now I
finally get to see what y'all have been talking about for so long!),
using DVI video output to a 22" widescreen LCD, 4GB of DDR2 dual channel
RAM. I have CompizConfig Settings Manager installed, and current
resolution is 1680 x 1050 at 60 Hz (what Ubuntu detected during
install).

So I figured what better way to play with the new toy, than to install
Google Earth? Version 5 beta was a flop -- got rid of a library it
didn't like to finally get it to run, but it still demanded I run it
with 'sudo' (and running an end-user desktop as root? BAD IDEA). So I
uninstalled it, and installed the prior version instead, 4.3. That
doesn't require me to run it as root, which is a good step.

Bad part is, the video is CRAP! I mean, absolutely terrible. I found
at least one other Ubuntu (oh yeah, 8.10 clean install) user who has had
the same problem, and they posted a screen shot:

When I did have version 5 beta running, the video was exactly the same
-- complete crap.

Does anyone have any suggestions I could try?

Thanks in advance,

Theresa
