Which is where marketing/spin/whatever-you-want-to-call-it comes in. If someone needs to read a PDF file, they are instructed to get a PDF reader. Here's an example page at WashU: http://bit.ly/c9tbwu People would look at you funny if you whined about a PDF not being in Word format. Imagine if people thought of ODF as a readable/writable version of read-only PDF?
