There is currently a case in Australia where a newspaper (the Australian
Financial Review) is claiming copyright on headlines. So a phrase like
"Stockmarket crashes" could become copyright. They are taking on a major
publisher that produces an abstracting service.
Personally, I can't believe it will ever go to court, it must be a business
negotiation tool, but this isn't the usual large company oppressing the poor,
so it could backfire.
