I'm not too sure about this. Yes, bigger prize funds will
probably see more People shooting but is this the way we
want to see the sport going? I don't think I want to see this
happening. I want shooting to be about shooting *not* simply
about making money. The comparison has been made against
Football and other "high paying" sports but lets face it, it's
because of the vast sums involved that we have the current
crop of arrogant, self centered arseholes taking part in them.
Not to mention the corruption and backstabbing (yes I know
this already goes on in Shooting but it's bad enough already)
from the ruling bodies and officials. I want to see People
shooting because they want to take part in the sport, not
simply to make vast fortunes from it. At Bisley a few years
ago a friend made the observation that in shooting you could
shoot alongside People who were the best in the World and
them have a drink and talk Guns with them afterwards.
Amateur Footballers never get to play with or against the likes
of Beckham or Shearer and amateur Tennis player don't get a
Game against Samprass or Becker, the gap created by the
Money is just too great.

The problem with shooting is the fact that there is simply not
the money within the sport it's self, this has been our down fall
over the years. I have been saying for years (and generally
invoke the wrath of shooters when I say it), but put quite
simply, shooting has been far too cheap far too long! Clubs do
not have any money to provide facilities or to fight new
legislation. Shooting, Rifle shooting in particular, is a sport
which requires a lot of space and there simply is not the
money availible to acquire suitable pieces of land. This I
presume has all been brought about by charitable status in
the past, which restricted clubs from making a profit.

Gun clubs should be like Golf clubs, big yearly subs so they
can afford good facilities.

There are professional shooters, but they still shoot alongside
the amateurs, e.g. Rob Leatham, Doug Koenig and so on. And
frankly even if they didn't the concept of having professional
shooters with big promotion and TV rights and all the rest of
it seems like paradise compared to the slow death we are currently
experiencing.

The prize stand at the Tir Federal was bigger than most gun clubs
in this country and they don't have professional shooters there.

Some sort of man v. man event I think would be best for TV.

Steve.
