Don't you mean steel-jacketed bullets, rather than steel cored?

They have a thin coating of copper or gilding metal. I wouldn't use them
in a match grade stainless barrel, but they shouldn't harm a chrome-moly
barrel, especially if a dab of moly-grease is applied before use.

My Geco 9mm has mild steel jackets, they work great.

Steel cored ammunition is not that unusual, to be honest it
sounds like an over-the-top story told to encourage someone
to buy something. I've heard various silly stories from dealers
before in an attempt to convince you to buy something.

Steve.
