One property that steel cored bullets seem to have
that lead ones dont is core/jacket separation when the
bullet hits the backstop causing the core to
exit the backstop at distinctly dodgy angles. I know
this can happen with all bullet styles in berms which
have not been deleaded or are poorly maintained generally
but my observations show that it is all too regular
with the steel cored rifle bullets found in a lot of
cheaper military ammo from outside NATO. I can see the
same thing with British 5.56 with the steel penetrator
tearing away from the rest of the bullet and dislike
being in the butts when this happens. You get the same
sort of thing with tracer as well by the way.
