I've never completely understood why SMGs are used for
law enforcement operations like this or even sillier,
semi-auto carbines. A handgun fires the same ammunition
and is easier to point inside a house. The range involved
is very short and you can mount a light on a handgun.
When they go to .223 I can understand it, but in 9mm
why not just stick with a pistol?

When I had the opportunity to fire an MP5, it was very
apparent that even with just the standard ghost-ring sights,
it was twice as fast and twice as accurate.
While I am not saying that either is intrinsically better,
the Glock was slower and MUCH harder to get a good sight
picture, you have to hold it at arms length so it
seems heavier, and you don't get as many shots. Further, it
would be very easy to take a pistol from outstretched arms
compared to an MP5 on a sling with a stock. Also, my
group size was half the size at ten yards, and I shot the
group in much less time.
Remember, I am only young, so before the ban I had only
fired a few full-bore pistols, and I have worn out a few
airsoft guns and air pistols, so this is my opinion, but
in these days of scant training and hostage situations, I would
rather have the MP5.
Plus it is a lot more fun when you fire it full auto!

Not the opinions of anyone but me.

An MP5 is a lot heavier than a Glock, and I can't say that
getting a fast sight picture with a pistol is that hard,
in fact it should be easier as the sight radius is shorter.
Not being disarmed is a matter of weapon retention
techniques, with an MP5 there is a lot more to grab onto
than with a pistol.
