Steve,
If the order in Council invokes the Emergency
Powers Act of 1920 it does not give the present regime a
completely free hand. IIRC, the powers must be confirmed by
Parliament in 7 days and they may not alter any established
rule of law.

Some press reports seem to be hinting that the blockade will
be outflanked by the Pipeline Agency. We shall see.

Regards, John Hurst.

On the news it mentioned the Energy Act 1976 as the source
of the powers, this I assume being based on the power cuts
in the early 70s (typical kneejerk legislation, in other
words).

The airports and power stations are mostly fueled via pipeline,
which is why we are still able to talk about it on here!

I have to say the Countryside Alliance did a good job on
Sky News of criticising the Government.

Steve.
