Oh how nice - a party to celebrate the country being
brought to its knees.
How jovial everybody seems to be that the 'country'
may be brought to it's knees because few there will be
no fuel in a few days time - even to the extent that
someone is pissed of that their car runs on a fuel that
is _not_ running out so can't be part of the party.
I suppose its OK as long as its just the country and
not me or you. Lets see how jovial we all are when the
weekly run to Tesco's can't be done or the local curry
house can't deliver the madras just ordered or we can't
get the kids to school or can't get to the club's autumn
shoot at Bisley, Sealand or Altcar. Lets see how happy
when we can't even get the kids to school or can't
even get into work - all of this in our 4x4 9MPG off
road 4 ton 'essential' vehicles of course. And lets
not even think about the local refuse collectors not
being able to collect the rubbish.
But I suppose we can all sit in our gardens and look
out upon our green and pleasant land and think about
exactly why the last government introduced
the fuel accelerator tax in the first place.
And of course its all the governments fault - not the
stupid twats sitting outside refineries blocking the
exits. Ever heard of democracy boys - the ballot box
and the pen? Thats the front shooters have been
fighting on for the last 4 years at least - and
supposedly very upright and correct. From what has
been posted to the list so far it seems shooters
are all very keen to support and back the people
taking the direct action while unwilling to actually
do so for their own personal cause.
Excuse me if I balk on the irony - or is this
inconsistent situation even more primitive than that?

I'm just trying to imagine the size of the fission
reaction if Neil and Dave ever enter the same room at
the same time.
There is no irony as far as I can see, only analogies.
We have been let down by the "democractic" system, so
have truckers, and just like us they are protesting.
Where is the irony in that?
The tories and Labour both support high fuel taxes,
just like they both supported the handgun ban, in
other words the users are lacking representation so have
taken action.
Also they do have the freedom to peaceably assemble
and protest for a redress of grievances.
I was taught in school (possibly inaccurately) that one
of the main reasons for indirect taxes was to offset fraud
in income taxes. Income taxes can be avoided far more
easily than VAT for example, at least that was the theory.
But now indirect taxes are so high that people are going
to great lengths to avoid them, look at the smuggling of
booze and cigarettes (and petrol, in Northern Ireland,
from the Republic).
This isn't an example of unfair revolt against just
governance, it's an example of bad Government. Neil
notwithstanding there appears to be overwhelming support
for the action.
Steve.
