What annoyed me about the BBC's coverage of this event
was that the Radio TImes billed it as being from 5:30am to
6am. Fine, set the VCR; 30 mins coverage sounds like it
should be quite thorough. What happened?
NO shooting coverage - AFAIK this used to be duelling with
.22LR (i.e. 1 shot per 3 sec exposure) but is now 20 shots
with .177 air pistol, 1 shot in 40 seconds. This is less
visually exciting, but a bit of footage would've been
possible.
NO fencing - visually exciting, especially as they use the
epee. Did any fencing events get BBC coverage?
Swimming - seen i the background whilst the GB coach did a
piece to camera. This could've been done with shooting or
fencing in the background.
Horse jumping - 90% of the coverage was of this. As if
there hadn't been enough jumping, dressage etc shown over
the last couple of weeks!
Running - not applicable as this stage hadn't been held by
then.
Unbelievably p**s-poor coverage IMHO. The gold was a
surprise, as Stephanie Cook (?) was in 6th place after
the horsey bit.
