>The haul included a

Only two of these are firearms. The others are inconsequential.
>Gamrie mother Susan Solo welcomed the jail sentence. She

Still could.
>But local resident Alex Duthie said the sentence was not

That's right, punish him for offences that someone else committed.
Sounds a familiar line to me.
>She said she had heard that Swales had managed to get

And it could have been the neighbourhood moggy. Goodness me, it a good
job he wasn't accused of being a witch, of they surely would have
drowned him there and then.
>The cottage still holds evidence of Swales's handiwork.
>Beside a window are examples of his bedtime reading,

I wonder how many households in the country qualify in that respect?
Perhaps WH Smiths has evil intent, because it sells such books? *What*
has got into these people, have they taken leave of their senses?

Judge Sturgess, 22 July 1928

This is what we're up against folks. I used to go out into the
garden and yell at the cat to stop attacking the birds, does
this mean if the police find a deactivated rifle in the house
the neighbours will tell them I was running around the garden
yelling my head off and am obviously a nutter?
I don't really care what the yokels said, more worrying was
the attitude of the judge. Obviously he was convicted of the
offences of possessing three firearms illegally, but even
Phillip Luty didn't get six years.
