Judge reprimanded after repairing guns in court

A US judge took out his guns and started repairing them with a screwdriver
while he was presiding over jury selection in court.

Judge H Lon Harper, in Houston, Texas, pulled out two single-action Colt
revolvers from under his robes and set them down on the bench next to his
gavel, hammer and law books.

"Almost all the judges carry guns. I just should have just kept mine under
the robe instead of outside of it with a screwdriver," Harper said.

"I guess I won't do any more handgun repair on the bench."

The State Commission on Judicial Conduct ruled that District Judge Harper
failed to act in a dignified manner and failed to maintain order and decorum
in the courtroom.

The commission also cited Harper for allowing a court bailiff to read a
British tabloid newspaper during jury selection.
