I have to agree, there is a growing tendency to parrot certain fashionable
ideas extolled by the so called liberal-left and epitomised most often by
the Guardian newspapers stance. These ideas coalesce around a certain agenda
which is broadly critical of our countries origins and is pro-euro,
republican, anti-royalist, pseudo-celtic and increasingly anti-american.
Simplistic stories regarding the motivation for ships waiting off bays to
evacuate the royals fits too easily into the agenda they wish to create. As
Jeremy indicates it is almost ridiculous. Of course in extremis the Royals
would have been evacuated along presumably with other national leaders.
Again as Jeremy said other countries leaders also had to take refuge abroad
and continue the fight, surely this would have been a strategic plus point
rather than the childish implication that they were just running away
leaving the "serfs" to perish.
