Earlier on this year I had to buy an Uncle Mikes screw
from a local dealer and it cost me 4 quid. The reason
why it cost so much is roughly as follows. The dealer
has to buy a bag of 20 from the wholesaler. The dealer
will probably only sell 1 a year.
The wholesaler has to buy 100 bags from the distributer
in the US, he will probably sell 40 bags in a year.
The fixed costs for having the thing on the shelf far
outweigh the item's value for all of the above.

I offer to the dealer to set up an automatic screwing
and turning machine to make a few hundred if he will
buy and distribute them for me to retail at 1
pound each. He declines because the customers don't want
British made ones, they want ones with Uncle Mikes
written on the bag.

The moral of this story? stop whinging unless to are
going to take up accountancy as well as shooting then
you will know what establishment costs and EOQ's are
and then you will do the decent thing and buy hundreds
of guns each and thousands of bolt on bits for them.
Buy locally sourced stuff when you can rather than run
it down, its cheaper in the long run.
