I've stood back from the Martin case thus far, but today I'm going to
wade in. One should not infer anything, from any of the following, as
to what my personal opinions are on these issues.
It appears to me that no one on this list has heard and seen all the
evidence. (Correct me if I am wrong: did anyone on this list sit
through the entire trial?) Therefore, no one on this list is in a
position to judge either Tony Martin or the jury or much else.
Facts:
the burglars broke into his house;
he fired a shotgun five times;
he shot two burglars, killing one of them, and wounding another;
the law does not allow us to shoot burglars on sight;
the law does allow us to use lethal force if we perceive our life to
be in immediate danger;
none of us was there, and none of us know what happened;
none of us has seen & heard all the evidence;
none of us *know* what went through his mind that night.
He put forward an explanation - that he was in fear of his life - and
the jury did not believe him.
