Yes, but even if every FAC holder in the country were to attend a shooters'
march, the gathering would still be only half the size of the CA Countryside
March! I think shooters' marches are valuable, but the fact remains that
sport shooting is the recreation of a small minority (it's wishful thinking
to start including all those air-gun owners, and frankly the majority of
shotgun owners too, many of whom are profoundly apathetic) and there are too
few of us to stir more than momentary sympathy.
Sympathy is no damn use - our present crop of rulers are almost wholly
pragmatic, caring nothing for principles, but unease going on fear (if only
for their Parliamentary seats, rather than their necks) works. Remember the
instant toadying from politicians which followed the Countryside March?
Remember those who joined in the march, most of them demonstrating
breathtaking hypocrisy?
With luck the next march will be a biggy, and even without adopting
French-style chastisement - sacking the Palace of Westminster, with a few
random executions of MPs - it might be salutary. But we've all got to join
in, whether we hunt foxes or not, because we're all in the same fight against
rampaging bureaucracy and an arrogant cabal of militant veggies, snotty
metropolitan liberals, and suburban Nazis.

I'm not sure I understand that comment as there are 163,000 FAC holders
in GB and more in NI besides. As this is also about deer stalkers and
rural pursuits I think it is fair to include all of them!

I do agree with the last point though!

Steve.
