John o. and I drove to Siler City early morn. We cruised from there on our
bikes with 5 other riders. We rode to Seagrove, then through the Uwharrie
National Forest. Flint Hill Rd., I'll never forget it! Very long steep
climbs. Flint Hill itself was a 16% grade. Ouch! Then they informed me that
we would climb the other side going back also 16%. There are 3 guys in the
group that climb like mountain goats. They smoke me every time going up and I
have to work hard on the down hills catching up. Even John showed me no mercy.
On the way back the 3 hard core guys leave me on Flint Hill Road. I'm
suffering badly. I finally meander through the steepest sections and try to
reel them in. 30 mins. later I rejoin the group. I'm busted but a scheduled
food stop saves the day at mile 92. At the 100 mile mark the hills get shorter
and the legs are back. They hurt me really good so I was gonna try some
payback though probably not the brightest thing I've ever done. Mike D. a very
seasoned endurance rider (who rode a 200K the day before) tagged along. We
took turns on the front and the breakaway succeeded. He left me on a 4 mile
climb at mile 110 but the eventual downhill allowed me to join back up though I
was wasted. Mike was nice and took it easy on me the last 5 miles so we could
finish together. I had a blast! The endorphins are off the charts.

125 miles!
7054 vertical feet of climbs.
9223 calories burned.
