A large herd gathered at DD today for a tour of Bailey. I’m not sure I can remember all of the participants, but...Nick, Wally, Dale, Doc, Little Grandma Kim, bob, Kaiser, Sam and Eddie from RM, and DC. It was great to see DC back on the bike after his crash yesterday. The pace was lively from the start as Nick headed the group out Nash toward Hornes Church. The pace continued high out Hornes Church (dog near the store, but it stayed out of the road) to Liles and down 581 to a short stop in Bailey. DC and Kaiser broke off from the group at Bailey and the rest continued down 581 to Old Raleigh. The pace remained high through the 3 Sisters as Nick attacked on the second Sister and pulled most of the group to Airport to set up the push to Target hill. Kim and I got spit out the back at this point and finished behind the main group. From a distance, it looked like Nick got the polka dot jersey, but that will need confirmation from the front runners. Kim and I continued up Airport to Nash; no sign of anyone at DD at the finish. I finished with 34 miles at a 20 mph average so the fast guys had to have a slightly higher average. The weather was great with a light wind from the SW; awesome day to ride.
