ahhhh! the portly philosopher king RAHenry VIII speaks again!

what wisdom does he impart to the court of the bland today?

let us see, dear courtesans-

RAH issues forth:

>Actually, existentialism is no more philosophy than Freudian
>"psychoanalytics" (or Marxism) is science. Charitably, it's all just
>literature. Almost all continental philosophy since, probably, Goedel's
>result, is pretty much literature, I figure.

>Well, *French* philosophy certainly is, anyway... :-).

ah ha. the musings of literature and great minds. how wise is our king.
 a treat for the masses.

how right he is to 'poo poo' the works of such non-entities as sren kierkegaard,
friedrich nietzsche, jean paul sartre, martin heidegger, blaise pascal,
fyodor dostoyevsky and karl jaspers. what charlatans are they.

literature he says. no place in philosophical discussions. dismiss the
trial, 1984, animal farm. mere fiction are these! no self respecting philosopher
would engage in a work of fiction. socratic dialogues are but mere pretenders
to the arena of real thought such as is produced by our ever wise RAHenry
VIII.

make no mention, dear courtesans, to the newly adorned philosopher king
(who decrys the legitimacy of existentialism) that deconstruction is a
existentialist practice- this might be considered rude in the king's own
court. perhaps one of you might stand and speak aloud that the individuality
and, dare we mention such before a monarch, _libertarian_ thought is but
an offshoot of the existential concept of the self? nay, treason and sedition
are crimes punishable by banishment and verbal harangue in the court of
the bland. reality is what the king says. after all, what is truth, dear
courtesan?

of course we must also ignore the germans rudolf bultmann and paul tillich
(protestants), gabriel marcel (roman catholic), the russian nikolay berdyayev
and the jews martin buber and franz kafka (also an austrian) they are all
tainted with the french stench, you see. french philisophers (or non-philisophers,
 forgive me) all.

ah how quick are the english to diminish the french (until one accidentally
silences the conversation with the careless mention of the name "richelieu").

samuel beckett and eugne ionesco cannot but hold a candle to the shining
brilliance of our philosopher king. he has decryed existentialism. the
burning is tonight. suggest that arthur miller, john barth, norman mailer,
walker percy and even john updike or woody allen have the strongest existentialist
influences and leanings? only if you wish to find yourself at the stake.

hark! oops! be silent quickly! the king approaches! hide that copy of
"the trial" now repeat it with me as he passes.

"long live the king!"
