America will conquer the Babylonians. America will watch as the
Israelites are destroyed, perhaps shedding a small tear as the
Christkillers are sent to Hell.
The budget deficit will not matter, as earthly concerns will not matter
once the righteous Americans are Raptured into the Kingdom of Christ.
fundy christers, it doesn't matter one whit to Dubbya about the economy, or
world opinion, or anything else. None of that matters because he's doing his
"lord's work" and all the rest will be moot. That's their same rationale for
trashing the environment, using up scarce resources, and everything else.
BTW, one of the christers in the Reagan Administration was James Watt, the Interior Ministry leader, who opined that saving the environment was as waste, as Rapture would take the righteous and the unrighteous would be sent to Hell soon enough anyway.
So I guess we can just kiss the economy goodby. OTOH, I'm getting more and
more convinced that Babylon will kick COW's ass, unless they just kill a couple
of million civilians.
Yes, I am hoping for this. Not because I favor Saddam Hussein as a leader (he's a dictator, and not worth a bucket of spit), but in order to put a stop to Pax Americana.
And, though I will be criticized by the Usual Suspect for going out on a limb, things are not going well for COW. Long supply lines through a single port (Kuwait), as neither Saudi Arabia nor Jordan nor Syria nor Turkey nor Iran (of course) are allowing their land to be used for this annexation. And irregulars and snipers have many advantages over fixed columns of tanks.
(Imagine Umm Kasar happening over and over again.)
And the main defended city of Baghdad hasn't even been hit yet (by ground troops...the bombing of "shock and awe" happened and didn't seem to produce much shock or awe, at least not in terms of causing the Iraqis to surrender en masse).
What Baghdad may be doing is drawing thousands of tanks in, then cutting off the column, blowing bridges, setting charges, causing the COW forces to panic and exhaust themselves in pointless artillery firings and random shootings.
When 1000 Americans girls and boys (witness "Shanna Latondawanda," the poorly-trained single mom (of course, given the name) cook who has no clue what she's doing driving around behind Iraqi lines) are rotting in the Iraqi sun and coming home in body bags, if retrieved, American public support will wither.
When 2000 are dead, full-scale Washington spin control will be in effect.
When 10,000 are dead, and tanks are burning, when Basra is dying of thirst and hunger, then America will declare victory and leave.
And adventurism and empire will be dead for another generation. A small price to pay.
But I think we'll be seriously fucked for years to come regardless.
Yes, even if we besiege Baghdad and the city ultimately gives up, with tens of thousands of dead Iraqis, by battle or by starvation and thirst, the rest of the world will tell us to fuck off.
This train wreck is going very, very nicely!
