2.4 is getting a little old at this point don't you think ( final release Nov 
30, 2004 with a security update in 2006).  That said upgrading to 2.6 has 
several security advantages along with the improved code.  But most important 
is the fact using 2.6 syntax is a stepping stone to 3.x.  At some point in the 
near future wxPython for 3.x will be available and users will start using it.  
And of course we might have to fix some of the 2.4 code to comply.

But I feel for you because upgrading CentOS to 2.6 would not be easy.
