I tried to find the list of issues, but I forget where I saw them, they
didn't look like most users would ever incur them. But nonetheless, I
didn't like 'em, probably because I'm a fan of PostgreSQL.

Again, my past history with Interbase left a bad taste in my mouth, and
have not looked at Firebird with an openmind.

It's probably the easiest to deploy in a multiuser environment, but
proper analysis needs to be taken into account.

Now days, it doesn't matter which rdbms you go with there will be issues
one way or another. That which most fit's your requirements, is
probably going to be the best one for you.

IMO, PostgreSQL is the most powerful, by far of the Open Sources, thus,
I tend to push that one. But it's not necessarily the easiest to
deploy. You need to install it under a specific user and edit a couple
of conf to get clients to be able to connect. Not the most straight
forward... But it's got object capabilities, which blow me away, and
I'd be a lier if I said I was totally familiar with them. However, some
of the more complicated select statements I've pulled off with
PostgreSQL have left me not missing Oracle... Which used to be the only
place I could pull off such selects.

But your mileage will vary, I'm sure. I'm confident Firebird is a very
capable database.
