I can't confirm that it's a bug without actually seeing it happen.
None of my apps exhibit this behavior, which is why I asked Mike to
send me his code so I can see what's actually going on.

I disagree that this is AI. Lookup tables are such a common design
that a good framework should anticipate their usage and make it easier
for a developer to create normal applications without extra steps.
