If you DO ever try a Macbook - stay away from the 17" models -- they're very nice, but very bulky to haul around - get the 15.4" with the same specs. Now - to be controversial -- I know the pundits all say "mac for ordinary folks, windows for business" -- but I can do a lot more for a lot less $$ these days on any halfway decent box with Ubuntu - and you can even make the Ubuntu box look remarkably like a Mac with Compiz....even add a launcher bar etc......
