I definitely don't need Darwin or the beautiful user interface. The reasons I 
use 
MacBooks are:

1) to have a mac to test my app on

2) I can trust the hardware to be of a certain quality and reliability (power 
consumption, weight, wifi, sound, display...)

3) good enough platform for running VM's of Windows and Ubuntu

I spend 90% of my day in my Ubuntu VM.
