Or could it be because wxpython is 32 bit only and one of the other 64
bit system components (Python 2.6, dabo, etc) is not downward
compatible?

I have not been very successful in my 64 bit Mac OS environment and
has to make/install everything in 32 bit - Python, Apache, mysqldb,
MySQL, ...
