Do you actually have None values, or are they still 'NaN'? If they are
truly None, and it's not working, then there is a bug.

Actually, the true way to understand things is to code everything,
including the UI, by hand. The Class Designer is great for composing your UI
visually, and is a big help when learning how to work with sizers.

I still use AppWizard apps for doing basic table maintenance stuff. I
find them a bit limiting when I want to do more extensive actions.
