Stocks posted moderate gains Thursday, as Wall Street reacted to an unexpectedly big 
drop in weekly jobless claims and solid earnings news from companies like Yahoo! -- By

Weekly jobless claims decline
New claims for unemployment insurance slid last week to their lowest level in eight 
months, a hopeful sign that companies may be having a bit more faith in the staying 
power of the economic recovery and thus are easing the pace of layoffs.

automotive market, raising expected domestic vehicle sales in 2003 to 16.6 million, a

New $20 bill begins circulating
The revamped U.S. $20 bill, with its faint tinge of peach color in the background, 
began making its way into bank vaults and consumers' pockets Thursday, accompanied by

agreed to pay $400,000 to settle charges he unjustly profited from initial public

EU sets deadline for Microsoft
