Stocks edge lower
Wall Street ended lower Thursday after new government data showed a slightly higher 
number of jobless claims and a larger-than-expected trade deficit, and investors 
sought profits following a sharp run-up in the previous session.

SEC reaches agreement with Putnam
The Securities and Exchange Commission said Thursday it had reached a settlement with

Richmond Fed president retiring
J. Alfred Broaddus Jr., the head of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond and a close 
ally of Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan, announced Thursday that he will 
retire next Aug. 1, shortly after he turns 65.
