A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
In Genesis, today, we read about the compassion of our God as He
states that it is not good for man to be alone. He proceeded to
create a woman from the rib of Adam, for her to be with him for all
of their days. The Lord blesses and approves of this union when He
tells us that a man must leave his father and mother and cling to his
wife, and the two shall become as one. In today's world, the secular
media suggests that for the smallest of reasons this holy sacrament
can be dissolved.
Whatever happened to praying together in the name and presence of
Jesus, to find the answer to problems that arise?
Look at the woman in the Gospel story: she turned to our Lord for
help with her problem. Life, no matter what the vocation, is never
totally smooth, especially if you're trying to follow Jesus and live
by His laws.
The Sacrament of Marriage is one of constant giving of oneself to
one's spouse. It is not a "50-50" deal; rather, it is each giving
100%. No one should have to give up their identity in this holy
sacrament, but should always be fully the person they were created to
be, and fully supported in that role by their spouse.
Christian marriage tells us that we shouldn't have to go through life
alone. We always have the Lord at our side. Our faith allows us to
live through the "better or the worse", the "sickness or in health"
or whatever else comes our way, as husband and wife and with God as
our ever-faithful friend, Redeemer and God!
Come Holy Spirit,
fill us with the faith we need
to trust in our relationships with one another
so that we may attain the heavenly bliss and happiness
you have promised. Amen!
