A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
At last Sunday's Mass, I was struck by the words of the priest's
homily. He discussed the cross and suffering and our role in the
salvation of the world. One comment he made stays with me and it is
this: "There is no detour to Calvary." In order to enjoy the glory of
heaven we must go to Calvary with our crosses, offered in love, in
order that we enjoy the divine vision.
During this lenten season, it is good to meditate on the crosses and
sufferings in our lives, and rather than focus on the injustice and
inhumanity of what me may have to bear, see what portion of our
suffering or crosses we can truly offer to Jesus out of love for Him.
It is better that we always keep in mind our life's goal which is to
reach the eternal glory of Heaven. When we do not have severe
difficulties to bear, we can easily forget Jesus and go astray. So,
let us thank the Lord for our need of Him in our lives.
Often we may be tempted to take the easier route in our lives, based
on the advice of others and a pragmatic view of the world. But Jesus'
way is often at odds with the way of the world. So let us pray to
ensure that we are guided by the Holy Spirit in our actions, and
ready to take up our crosses willingly.
All Honor and Praise to you Lord Jesus,
King of eternal Glory!
Amen.
