A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
The Lord has given us the great privilege of sharing in His
suffering, so that we might also share in His glory. The thought of
suffering is frightening - it seems impossible that one could ever do
it, much less desire it. Yet that is what dying to self requires - to
accept all those circumstances which inconvenience our nature and to
even welcome them.
In so doing we begin to imitate our loving Savior who so gently and
humbly accepted all the inconveniences that were an affront to His
divine nature. He died to Himself so that we might see the
possibility of doing likewise.
As Calvary looms before us let us not turn away in fear or revulsion;
but like Jesus, may we put one foot in front of the other, even
though it may mean stumbling and falling and walking with every
greater determination to reach the summit where pain becomes joy and
defeat becomes victory.
We adore You O Christ and we praise You,
for by Your Holy Cross You have redeemed the world.
