**** NARAL: Anti-Women Message? **** See it today in Friday's edition of Join My Journey **** http://homepage.mac.com/ojoachim The Catholic Calendar for Friday, April 13, 2001 Good Friday, The Passion of the Lord Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word: Isaiah 52:13--53:12 Psalm 31:2,6,12-13,15-17,25 Hebrews 4:14-16;5:7-9 John 18:1--19:42 Full text: http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/index.htm A Reflection on Today's Scripture: Today, Good Friday, we remember the events of Jesus's capture, torture and crucifixion. We see Jesus, handed over to His persecutors, humbly accepting of His fate, true to the will of His father in Heaven and true to the message of selfless love. We remember those in the Gospel today and with whom we can so easily identify: Peter, who could not bring himself to stand true to his Master, despite his love for Jesus. Out of fear and weakness, he could not bring himself to testify. We remember Pilate, a man of position and power, who although recognising the injustice of his actions, could not forsake his power and authority to do what was right. And then, we focus again on Jesus and marvel at His tremendous love for us, a pure, unselfish love which brought about His destruction yet also allowed us a way for healing and salvation. Today, let us praise Jesus for His saving act of love. Let us endeavour to emulate Jesus in the small ways that we can, in thanksgiving for His loving sacrifice.
