A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

We see a great contrast in the two scriptures of today, both
concerning events after the Resurrection. In the gospel of St. John
(21:1-14) we hear of professional fishermen, Peter and John, who fish
all night without catching any fish. Christ tells them where to place
their nets and they make a tremendous catch.

In the Acts of the Apostles (4:1-12) we find the same Peter and John
now empowered by the Holy Spirit and they are busy evangelizing,
spreading the word of Christ fearlessly, even in the face of danger,
and 5000 men came to believe. What a contrast!

We too, can be empowered by the Holy Spirit! We are empowered by our
Confirmation. Now at the direction of Christ, we, like the apostles
at the direction of Christ, can lower our nets more deeply into the
freeing waters of our baptism and the power of the Spirit in
confirmation. Let us now anticipate the Feast of Pentecost with great
hope!

Blessed Mother, Spouse of the Holy Spirit, guide us!
